Meg:

This episode focuses on National Suicide Prevention Month. This episode was one that I took extremely seriously, being that it regards mental health. Mental health stigma has often made people feel afraid to share their emotions. However, after looking into the shocking statistics we stated in this episode, I think prioritizing mental health is so important. Eshaan and I not only wanted to provide data, but also ways you can help others who may be feeling suicidal, as well as links to help if you are feeling down. One takeaway I got from this episode was to ask “what” questions rather than “why”. I did not realize that the phrasing of questions is so important, but upon thinking about it, I realize that it is. I think being non-judgemental about mental health is something that needs to be addressed for society to progress. It is ok to not be ok and I definitely think we need to normalize seeking help in society.

Eshaan:

Doing this month’s episode on National Suicide Prevention Month was something that I really wanted to do. I know a couple of high schoolers who have committed suicide because they felt they did not have anyone and I have seen how it has affected everyone. Mental health is so important! It's important to take care of your own mental health and the people around as well. The statistics we found were shocking to me. We wanted this episode to be informative to people, but also wanted it to be helpful to people who feel depressed or suicidal and to people who know someone is depressed or suicidal. Asking questions in the “what” phrase seems less judgemental and more approachable. Being non-judgmental is so important because you come across as approachable and as an ally instead of non approachable and an enemy. Always know that if you are struggling, people are there to help you!
