Meg:
As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, we decided to focus our episode on this topic. We sat down with Dr. Ashish Shah to discuss breast cancer, especially during the time of COVID. I think I was most intrigued by how medical care has been using revolutionary technology to adapt to these unprecedented times. Dr.Shah touched on how consults that do not require physical contact are done over zoom or other video chat platforms. Furthermore, treatments are discussed online. Breast Cancer, affecting so many women, is so prevalent. The way its treatment is approached has changed drastically as technology has progressed, especially during the time of COVID.
Eshaan:
With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Meg and I wanted to focus this month’s episode on this. We were fortunate enough to be able to talk to Dr. Ashish Shah who has treated many cancer patients, specifically Breast Cancer patients. Through our conversation with Dr. Shah, I was able to learn more about how the field of oncology is constantly developing with technology. Dr. Shah discussed how Electronic Medical Records (EMR) have greatly helped because they allow doctors to quickly obtain all the information they need on a patient. He also discussed how technology has helped with chemotherapy and how now doctors do not need to calculate the doses manually anymore. I think these advancements in technology are super helpful to all healthcare workers as they really make treating a patient more efficient. Dr. Shah also discussed support systems with cancer patients and he emphasized how important it is to have a support system. I think this is super important because cancer not only takes a toll on your body but also your mental health and it is extremely important to have a support system there to help. Overall, I found this episode regarding Breast Cancer to be super informational and it has made me understand the effects of Breast Cancer on patients and doctors.
